‘Vocabulary’
- Prerogative (noun)
Meaning: a right or privilege exclusive to a particular individual or class. (विशेषाधिकार)
Synonyms: entitlement, right, privilege
Sentence: Education was once the prerogative of the elite.
- Pendency (noun)
Meaning: the state, condition, or period of being pending or awaiting settlement. (लम्बित)
Synonyms: unresolved, unsettled
Sentence: The defendant should be restrained from further public comment during the pendency of the trial.
- Contentious (adj.)
Meaning: causing or likely to cause an argument; controversial. (विवादास्पद)
Synonyms: controversial, disputable, debatable
Antonyms: noncontroversial, incontestable, indisputable
Sentence: Both views are highly contentious.
- Pillaged (verb)
Meaning: rob a (place) using violence, especially in wartime. (लूट-पाट)
Synonyms: looted, marauded, plundered
Sentence: The town had been pillaged and burned.
- Dilatory (adj.)
Meaning: slow to act. (धीमा)
Synonyms: slow, unhurried, tardy
Antonyms: expeditious, prompt, speedy
Sentence: The Government has been dilatory in condemning the outrage.
- Sacked (verb)
Meaning: to let go from office, service, or employment (बर्खास्त)
Synonyms: dismissed, fired, discharged
Antonyms: employed, engaged, hired
Sentence: He was sacked for computer misuse.
- Profundity (noun)
Meaning: deep insight; great depth of knowledge or thought. (बुद्धिमत्ता)
Synonyms: wisdom(deep), insight, intelligence
Antonyms: stupidity, witlessness
Sentence: He lacked profundity and analytical precision.
- Unbosom (verb)
Meaning: disclose (one’s thoughts or secrets). (प्रकट करना)
Synonyms: disclose, discover, divulge
Antonyms: cloak, conceal, enshroud
Sentence: You’ll feel better if you unbosom your sorrows to me.
- Conjectural (adj.)
Meaning: based on or involving conjecture. (मान लिया)
Synonyms: speculative, suppositional, theoretical
Antonyms: actual, factual, real
Sentence: Much of the racial history of Madagascar remains conjectural.
- Luscious (adj.)
Meaning: (of food or wine) having a pleasingly rich, sweet taste. (सुस्वाद)
Synonyms: delicious, succulent, lush
Antonyms: distasteful, flavorless, insipid
Sentence: These items offer both texture and luscious flavor.
