‘Vocabulary’
- Vaguely (adv.)
Meaning: in a way that is uncertain, indefinite, or unclear; roughly. (अनिश्च्त रूप से)
Synonyms: roughly, more or less, approximately
Antonyms: considerably, extensively, significantly
Sentence: He vaguely remembered talking to her once.
- Posit (verb)
Meaning: assume as a fact; put forward as a basis of argument. (प्रस्तुत करना)
Synonyms: postulate, put forward, propound
Antonyms: ignore, disregard
Sentence: The Confucian view posits a perfectible human nature.
- Castigated (verb)
Meaning: reprimand (someone) severely. (आलोचना)
Synonyms: reprimand, rebuke, admonish
Antonyms: approved, endorsed, praised
Sentence: She castigated him for having no intellectual interests.
- Exasperates (verb)
Meaning: irritate and frustrate (someone) intensely. (परेशान करना)
Synonyms: infuriate, irritate, anger
Antonyms: appeases, conciliates, mollifies
Sentence: Small children can exasperate their parents with endless questions about why this or that is so.
- Frail (adj.)
Meaning: (of a person) weak and delicate. (अनैतिक)
Synonyms: infirm, weak, feeble
Antonyms: mighty, powerful, rugged
Sentence: His frail hands could hardly hold a cup.
- Inadvertence (noun)
Meaning: failure to give sufficient attention to avoiding harm or errors; negligence. (असावधानी)
Synonyms: carelessness, heedlessness, laxity
Antonyms: care, carefulness, caution
Sentence: Mistakes proceed from inadvertence.
- Abreast (adv.)
Meaning: side by side and facing the same way. (बराबर में)
Synonyms: in a row, side by side, alongside
Sentence: His car was abreast of the leading car.
- Ethereal (adj.)
Meaning: extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world. (नाज़ुक)
Synonyms: delicate, exquisite, dainty
Antonyms: bodily, corporeal, substantial
Sentence: She’s the prettiest, most ethereal romantic heroine in the movies.
- Eloquence (noun)
Meaning: fluent or persuasive speaking or writing. (वाग्मिता)
Synonyms: oratory, rhetoric
Antonyms: inarticulateness
Sentence: Wealth of words is not eloquence.
- Asperse (verb)
Meaning: attack or criticize the reputation or integrity of. (कलंक लगाना)
Synonyms: disparage, denigrate, defame
Antonyms: glorify, honor, acclaim
Sentence: Why is he always trying to vilify my reputation?
