Twitter testing ‘Edit button’ for the first time

Micro-blogging platform Twitter finally stated that it has been testing the ‘Edit button’ after much debate. The company is testing the feature with select users and Twitter Blue users over the next few weeks. Twitter has not given any time for its launch.

Idea behind ‘Edit’ button:

The concept behind starting for rolling out the ‘Edit’ to choose users over the next few weeks to test how the product works and settle any potential issues in the product before it is launched to the public.

The test will be set to a single country at first and flourish as we learn and observe how people using Edit Tweet.

Twitter has also stated that the company will be giving close attention to how the feature impacts the way people read, write, and engage with Tweets.

Twitter Blue tick:

Twitter Blue, a premium offering of the company, grants users of the service early access to new launches by the company. As per the company’s official information the edit feature is being checked (tested) right now and it will permit users to edit their tweets “a few times” within 30 minutes of it being sent out.

Identification about Edited button:

Edited Tweets will seem with an icon, timestamp, and label that will clear the readers that the original Tweet has been modified.

Twitter has also informed that tapping the label will bring viewers to the Tweet’s Edit History that will contain past versions of the Tweet.

The time limit of 30 minutes and the tweet’s (edited) version history was important to be displayed to “protect the integrity of the conversation and create a publicly accessible record of what was said”.

Controversy with Elon Musk:

Elon Musk had sent a poll in a tweet about asking users if they desired an edit button exactly before a day on April 5 when the communications team of Twitter had given a confirmation about the company’s plans on the edit button.

Then newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal had cited Musk’s tweet and asked people to vote carefully as the “consequences” of the poll could be important.
