Amit Shah inaugurated National Cyber Forensic Laboratory in Hyderabad
Union Home and Co-operation Minister Amit Shah has formally inaugurated the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL) in Hyderabad.
The premium laboratory was inaugurated at the premises of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory located at Ramanthapur in the city. The Project was awarded to the CFSL with an estimated cost of about 35.51 crore rupees.
The Cyber and Information Security Division of the Home Ministry has set up the NCFL under Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Child scheme.
Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajasthan notified as 52nd tiger reserve of India
Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav has announced that Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan has been notified as Rajasthan’s 4th and the 52nd Reserve Forest for Wild cats of India.
It will help to conserve biodiversity and bring ecotourism and development to the area.

- Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (RTR) in Sawai Madhopur
- Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR) in Alwar
- Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR) in Kota.
India hosted key “SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure” anti-terror meet
India hosted the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO’s)-Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) in New Delhi from May 16th to 19th.
The Security Advisers of the National Security Councils of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting.
India has taken the chairmanship of the Council of Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of SCO last year for a period of one year.
SCO’s RATS, based out of the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, is a permanent body of the grouping and aims to counter terrorism, extremism, and separatism in the region.
Nepal & India signed six MoUs and agreements related to education and hydropower sectors
India and Nepal signed and exchanged six MoU, during Prime Minister Modi’s day-long visit to Lumbini (Nepal).
They include an MoU between the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Lumbini Buddhist University on the establishment of Dr Ambedkar Chair for Buddhist Studies.
An MoU between Indian Council of Cultural Relations and Kathmandu University on the establishment of the ICCR Chair of Indian Studies.
A letter of Agreement between Kathmandu University and Indian Institute of Technology (IITM) was also signed for a joint degree program at Master’s level.
An Agreement between SJVN Ltd and Nepal Electricity Authority was also signed for development and implementation of Arun 4 Project.

England’s Kenton Cool became 1st foreigner to scale Mount Everest 16 times
Kenton Cool from Gloucestershire, South West England has scaled the world’s highest mountain for the 16th time and becomes the first foreigner to climb the most Mt Everest summit.
Kenton climbed the summit with his fellow guide Dorji Gyalzen Sherpa. Kenton also holds a record as the first British mountaineer who has climbed Mt Nuptse, Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse in a season in 2013.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud elected as new President of Somalia
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Somalia’s former leader, has been elected as President of Somalia, defeating Mohamed Abudallahi Mohamed (also known as Farmajo).
Farmajo served as President of Somalia since 2017. The polling took place at Halane Camp in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital.

Banking and Financial
RBI permitted lending by Commercial Banks to NBFCs & SFBs to NBFC-MFIs, for the purpose of on-lending to priority sectors
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) permitted commercial banks to continue providing credit facility to NBFCs (Non-Banking Financial Companies) for the purpose of on-lending to certain priority sectors.
The same is applicable for lending by Small Finance Banks (SFBs) to NBFC-MFIs (Microfinance institutions). This facility of lending was available till March 31, 2022.
Bank credit to NBFCs (including HFCs) for on-lending will be allowed up to an overall limit of 5 percent of an individual bank’s total priority sector lending in case of commercial banks. In case of SFBs, credit to NBFC-MFIs and other MFIs (Societies, Trusts, etc.) which are members of RBI recognized ‘Self-Regulatory Organisation’ of the sector, will be allowed up to an overall limit of 10 percent of an individual bank’s total priority sector lending. These limits shall be computed by averaging across four quarters of the financial year, to determine adherence to the prescribed cap.
Adani Group to buy Ambuja Cements, ACC for $10.5 bn from Holcim
Adani Group which belongs to Gautam Adani is set to acquire swiss multinational company Holcim’s stake in Indian companies Ambuja Cements and its subsidiary ACC for $10.5 bn (around Rs 81,361 crore), including the open offers.
The value for the Holcim stake and open offer consideration for Ambuja Cements and ACC is USD 10.5 billion, which makes this the largest-ever acquisition by Adani, and India’s largest-ever M&A transaction in the infrastructure and materials space.
Holcim, through its subsidiaries, holds 63.19 per cent in Ambuja Cements and 54.53 per cent in ACC (of which 50.05 per cent is held through Ambuja Cements).
Deutsche Bank, BarCap and Standard Chartered were financiers to the deal. Deutsche Bank was the financial adviser to Adani Group.
Vijayalakshmi Swaminathan appointed as Chief People Officer of Pine Labs
Pine Labs has appointed Vijayalakshmi Swaminathan as the company’s new Chief People Officer.
She joins Pine Labs from Amazon India where she was heading the Human Resources function.
Italian Open 2022: Novak Djokovic & Iga Swiatek won men’s and women’s singles title
World No.1 Serbia’s Novak Djokovic has defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas to win 79th edition of Italian Open (Internazionali BNL d’Italia) in Rome, and to capture the 38th ATP Masters 1000 crown.
Novak Djokovic became the fifth man in the Open Era to earn 1,000 match wins after defeating Casper Ruud in the semi-finals.
In women singles, Iga Swiatek has won the Italian Open title after defeating Ons Jabeur.

17 May: World Telecommunication and Information Society Day
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated every year on May 17 to highlight the role of Information and Communication Technology in today’s world.
The day had previously been known as ‘World Telecommunication Day’ to mark the anniversary of the founding of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on May 17, 1865, the occasion on which the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris, France.

16 May 2022: Sikkim’s 47th statehood day
Sikkim observed its 47th Statehood Day on 16th May 2022. It was on 16th May 1975 that Sikkim became a part of India as its 22nd state.
On 15 May 1975, then-President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed signed a 36th constitutional amendment and a day later, Sikkim became a complete Indian state The rule of the Chogyal (last dynasty) was abolished.
16 May: National Dengue Day
In India, the National Dengue Day is observed every year on 16 May.
The day is an initiative by the Ministry of Healthy and Family Welfare, to raise awareness about dengue and its preventive measures, and preparedness for control of the vector-borne disease before the transmission season begins.
