India has climbed two spots to bag the eighth position out of 63 in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2023.
In 2022 & 2021, India stood at the 10th spot, while in 2020 it ranked 9th.
The report leaves the first three places empty as “no country performed well enough in all index categories to achieve an overall very high rating”. It puts Denmark in fourth place, followed by Sweden and Chile.
China, which is the world’s biggest polluter now, fell 13 places to 51st in this year’s CCPI and received an overall very-low rating due to plans for new coal-fired power plants.
The US rose by three ranks to 52nd place. Iran (63rd), Saudi Arabia (62nd), and Kazakhstan (61st) fared the worst.
The report was published by three environmental non-governmental organizations that track the climate performance of the European Union and 59 countries, which together account for over 92 percent of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the world.
The rankings by Germanwatch, New Climate Institute and the Climate Action Network are based on how well the countries are doing to halve their emissions by 2030.

This is because fertility rates in China have declined considerably in past years, with the country expected to see an absolute decline in population numbers as early as 2023.
By 2050, India is expected to have a population of 1.668 billion while China’s population will decline to 1.317 billion.
According to the report, the world’s population crossed the 8 billion mark by November 15. By 2050, Earth will be host to 9.7 billion humans.
About half of the increase in population from the present day to 2050 will be contributed by just 8 countries, including India.
The world’s population will hit 10.4 billion by the 2080s and will stabilize around that number by the end of the century.

India’s exports contracted by 16.65 percent to $29.78 billion in October 2022 as compared to the year-ago period, according to data released by the commerce ministry
Imports during the month under review increased to USD 56.69 billion as against USD 53.64 billion in October 2021.
During April-October 2022, exports recorded a growth of 12.55 percent to USD 263.35 billion. Imports rose 33.12 percent to USD 436.81 billion, as per the data.

India’s retail inflation, based on the consumer price index (CPI), eased sharply to 6.77 percent on an annual basis in the month of October from 7.41 percent in September 2022.
The number has remained above RBI’s tolerance band of 2-6 percent for the 10th consecutive month
The government has mandated the RBI to maintain retail inflation at 4% with a margin of 2%.
As per the Ministry of Statistics data released, retail inflation came down mainly with ease in prices of Food & Beverages.
Food inflation for October came in at 7.01 percent as against 8.6 percent a month before.
The inflation rate for vegetables came in at 7.7 percent. Meanwhile, fuel and light inflation declined to 9.93 percent compared to 10.39 percent in September.

Exp. India-US joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ to start in Uttrakhand
The 18th edition of the India-US joint training exercise “Yudh Abhyas 22″ is scheduled to be conducted in Uttarakhand.
The drill is conducted annually between India and the USA with the aim of exchanging best practices, tactics, techniques, and procedures between the armies of the two countries.
US Army soldiers from the 2nd Brigade of the 11th Airborne Division and Indian Army soldiers from the ASSAM Regiment will be participating in the exercise.
The previous edition of the exercise was conducted at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska in October 2021.

This National Level Coastal Defence Exercise was conceptualized in 2018 to validate various measures that have been instituted towards enhancing maritime security since ‘26/11’.
The exercise was undertaken along the entire 7516 km coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone of India and involved all the Coastal States and Union territories along with other maritime stakeholders, including the fishing and coastal communities.
The exercise is being conducted by the Indian Navy in coordination with the Coast Guard and other ministries entrusted with the task of maritime activities.
