IBPS PO 2025 Exam Pattern and Syllabus:
IBPS has released a new exam pattern for the IBPS PO Exam 2025. The exam pattern will remain similar to the previous year as well. There will be separate sectional timing for each section in the preliminary exam. The IBPS PO 2025 Exam will be conducted in three phases: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Interview Process. It is mandatory for candidates to qualify at each stage of the examination to get selected for the post of Probationary Officer in multiple Public Sector Banks.
IBPS PO 2025 Exam Pattern
The online examination will be two tier i.e. the online examination will be held in two phases, Online Preliminary and Online Main. Candidates who qualify in Online Preliminary examination and shortlisted will have to appear for Online Main examination and shortlisted candidates in the Online Main examination will be called for a Personality Test and subsequently for Common Interview to be conducted by the Participating Banks and co-ordinated by the Nodal Bank.
Stage-1: IBPS PO Preliminary Examination:
The IBPS PO 2025 Preliminary Examination consists of three sections: English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability. The English Language section comprises 30 questions carrying 30 marks, and the medium of this section is English only, with a time limit of 20 minutes.
The second section is Quantitative Aptitude, which includes 35 questions for 35 marks. This section is available in both English and Hindi, and candidates are allotted 20 minutes to complete it.
The third section is Reasoning Ability, also consisting of 35 questions for 35 marks, and like Quantitative Aptitude, it is conducted in English and Hindi with a time limit of 20 minutes.
In total, the preliminary exam has 100 questions carrying 100 marks, and the overall time duration for the exam is 60 minutes, with each section being separately timed for 20 minutes.

Stage-2: Main Examination
This test has 155 questions that have to be answered in 3 hours. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every question attempted wrong by a candidate. The paper is divided into 4 sections – Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness and English Language. IBPS also introduced Descriptive Paper in its Mains Examination to Write essay and a letter in 30 minutes with constitute of 25 marks.

Stage 3: Personality Test
Candidates who qualify in the Main examination will be called for a Personality Test (self-report). Personality Profile of the candidates will be placed before the Interview panel. The Personality Test will be non-qualifying in nature. However, appearing in the Personality Test will be mandatory for being eligible for appearing for the Interview process.
IBPS PO 2025 Exam Syllabus
The syllabus for the IBPS PO 2025 Preliminary and Mains exams is different. While the preliminary exam mainly focuses on three sections — English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability, the mains exam includes two additional sections that candidates need to prepare — General Awareness (with a focus on Banking, Economy, and Current Affairs) and Computer Aptitude.
These additional sections are crucial as they significantly impact the final merit list. The mains exam is designed to test not only the fundamental abilities in quants, reasoning, and English but also the candidate’s knowledge of current events, banking awareness, and basic computer proficiency — all of which are essential for a Probationary Officer role in public sector banks.
