IBPS RRB PO Exam Pattern & Syllabus 2019:
Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the notification for the recruitment of IBPS RRB PO (Officer Scale) with multiple posts IBPS RRB Officer Scale – I, II & III. Candidates can check detailed notification for RRB PO 2019 from the mentioned below link.
IBPS RRB PO 2019 will be conducted on 3rd & 4th August 2019 (Preliminary Exam) and the mains exam for the same will be conducted on 22nd September 2019. This year, a single exam will be conducted for IBPS RRB Officer Scale II & III on 22nd September 2019.
Selection Procedure
The exam pattern for the selection to the post of Office Assistant is quite different to that of exam pattern for the selection to the post of Officer Grade. For IBPS RRB Assistant 2019, Exam will be conducted in two phases:
- Preliminary Exam
- Mains Exam
The recruitment procedure for the Scale I (Assistant Managers) posts involves three stages that is Prelims, Mains and Interview round.
For Officers Scale I, candidates who will qualify in preliminary examination and shortlisted will have to appear for Main examination and shortlisted candidates in the main examination will subsequently be called for a Common Interview to be coordinated by the Nodal Regional Rural Banks with the help of NABARD and IBPS in consultation with appropriate authority.

Noe: Candidates (for both posts) have to qualify in both the tests by securing minimum cut-off Adequate number of candidates in each category, depending upon requirements, will be shortlisted for Online Main Examination.

RRB Officer Scale-II
Candidates applying for Scale II will have to appear for a single online examination. Then via the online exam, he/ she will be shortlisted to appear for Common Interview for final recruitment in various RRBs. The interview will be coordinated by Nodal RRBs with the help of NABARD and IBPS. Scale II has 2 posts to offer which are as follows:
- Scale II – General Banking Officer
- Scale II – Specialist Cadre
The exam pattern for Scale II of IBPS RRB is different in terms of sections and timings. Mentioned below are the patterns for both the posts.
Exam Pattern for General Banking Officer
- It will be conducted in online mode i.e. it will be a Computer Based Test (CBT)
- The questions will be of objective type
- The exam will have 5 sections namely Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation, Finance Awareness, English/ Hindi Language and Computer Knowledge.
- There is a provision of negative marking as well. For every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks or ¼ mark will be deducted.
- The duration of exam is 2 hours (120 minutes)

Exam Pattern for Specialist Cadre
- It will be conducted in online mode i.e. it will be a Computer Based Test (CBT)
- The questions will be of objective type
- The exam will have 6 sections namely Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation, Finance Awareness, English/ Hindi Language, Computer Knowledge and Professional Knowledge.
- There is a provision of negative marking as well. For every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks or ¼ mark will be deducted.
- The duration of exam is 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes)

Candidates qualifying the exam will then have to attend IBPS RRB Common Interview round. The interview will be conducted under the supervision of IBPS and NABARD. In this round, a candidate’s personality and communication skills will be examined.
Note: For the post of Scale II (Generalist and Specialist), marks obtained only in the single level examination will be considered for shortlisting for interview and final merit listing.
IBPS RRB Exam Pattern – Group A (Scale III)
Candidates applying for Scale II will have to appear for single online examination. Candidates qualifying the mains exam will then have to attend the common interview round. The exam is scheduled for November 05, 2017. This round will be coordinated by Nodal Regional Rural Banks with the help of NABARD and IBPS.
Listed below are the highlights common to IBPS RRB Exam Patterns for Scale III:
- The will be conducted in online mode
- All the questions will be of objective type
- There will be a total of 5 sections namely Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation, Finance Awareness, English/ Hindi Language, Computer Knowledge. All sections will have 40 questions each.
- Also, a candidate will have an option to answer the questions in Hindi or English language.
- Each question carries 1 mark.
- There is a provision of negative marking as well. For each incorrect answer, 0.25 or ¼ mark will be deducted. Also, no marks will be deducted for any unanswered question.
Exam Pattern for IBPS RRB Scale III

Penalty for wrong answers:
There will be penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that question.
For Officers Scale I – Each candidate will be required to obtain a minimum score in each test of Online Main examination to be considered to be shortlisted for interview. Depending on the number of vacancies available, adequate number of candidates in each category not exceeding three times of the declared vacancies in each state shall be called for interview, subject to availability. Prior to the completion of the interview process, scores obtained in the online main examination will not be shared with the candidates shortlisted for interview.
RRB PO/Officer Scale Syllabus:
The syllabus of Officer Grade is almost similar to that of IBPS RRB 2019 Assistant. The only difference occurs in the professional knowledge paper. The Officer Grade has an additional section of General Awareness apart from Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English/Hindi Language, Computer Language, Computer Applications and Professional Knowledge.

Note: A candidate can apply for the Post of Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and can also apply for the Post of Officer. However a candidate can apply for only one post in officer’s cadre i.e. for Officer Scale-I or Scale-II or Scale-III. Candidates have to apply separately and pay fees / intimation charges separately for each post applied for.
