Prime Minister Narendra Modi has just inaugurated the Purvanchal Expressway at Karwal Kheri in Sultanpur district. Today (i.e.16 November) is a special day for Uttar Pradesh’s growth trajectory. This project adds to UP’s economic and social progress with it multiple benefits. The Prime Minister has also seen an air show by the Indian Air Force on the 3.2 km long airstrip constructed on the Expressway in Sultanpur district following the inauguration.

Some details about the Purvanchal Expressway:

The infrastructure project is carried out as a ‘carrier of development’ to the underdeveloped or very less developed Purvanchal region which costs Rs 22,500 crore. It will grant commuters to drive from Delhi to the far-east corner of Uttar Pradesh bordering Bihar in around 10 hours.

The six-lane wide highway starts from Chandsarai village in the district of Lucknow located on the Lucknow-Sultanpur road and ends at Haidaria village on National Highway 31 in Ghazipur district, which is around 18 km from the UP-Bihar border. It may be noted that the expressway can be extended to eight-lane in the future.

The Yamuna Expressway links Noida to Agra while the Lucknow-Agra Expressway goes up to the state capital. The Purvanchal Expressway will end at the place which is about 18 km from the UP-Bihar border.

The Purvanchal Expressway will promote to the economic development of eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh, especially the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

Inter connections:

There are 18 flyovers, seven railway over bridges, seven long bridges, 104 minor bridges, 13 interchanges and 271 underpasses on the highway that covers the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority has been authorized to develop industrial hubs along the highway and land banks along the expressway have been developed.

This expressway might to be the backbone of Eastern UP. Its inauguration will be in a grand way, accompanied by an air show as a three-and-a-half-km long stretch near Sultanpur has been developed as an airstrip for emergency landing of aircraft.
