Chaos in Parliament Over Bills on Arrested Ministers

  • A big fight broke out in Lok Sabha between ruling party and Opposition MPs after three new Bills were brought in. These Bills say that if any elected leader like a Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or Minister goes to jail for serious crimes, they can be removed from their post after 31 days in jail. This led to loud protests and shouting in the House.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader K.C. Venugopal had a heated exchange, with Venugopal bringing up Shah’s 2010 arrest in Gujarat. Shah replied that the case was false, but still, he had resigned at that time and did not take any post until he was fully cleared by the court. During this fight, Trinamool Congress MPs even tore copies of the Bill and threw them near Shah’s seat. MPs from both sides started pushing and shoving each other.
  • BJP leaders like Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Singh Bittu stood in front of Amit Shah to protect him. Trinamool MPs said women MPs were pushed around, which made the scene more tense. Opposition parties said the Bills are against the Constitution, against the rights of States, and are meant to target Opposition leaders unfairly.
  • The three proposed laws – Government of Union Territories Amendment Bill 2025, Constitution 130th Amendment Bill 2025, and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Amendment Bill 2025 – were referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee through a voice vote. The committee will include 21 Lok Sabha members and 10 Rajya Sabha members, and it must present its report during the Winter Session.
  • As per these Bills, if a Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or Minister is kept in jail for 30 straight days without bail, and the crime has a punishment of 5 years or more, then they must resign or will be removed from their post.
  • Rahul Gandhi warned that these laws will take India back to “medieval times” because the government can misuse them. He said agencies like Enforcement Directorate can be told to put leaders in jail for 30 days just to remove them from power.
  • When the Bills were placed at 2 p.m., the Opposition created chaos, shouting slogans and entering the well of the House. Leaders like Owaisi, Venugopal, and Tewari strongly opposed the Bills, calling them unconstitutional and against States’ powers.
  • Owaisi warned that the government is turning the Constitution into a police rule. Tewari also said these laws can be misused politically. Premchandran complained that the Bills were brought in hurry, not even circulated properly to MPs, and due process was not followed.

Kerala Health Dept: Quick Treatment for Deadly Amoeba Infection

  • Kerala Health Department said there is no delay in treating patients with rare brain infection caused by amoeba. They explained that the microbiology lab at Kozhikode Medical College immediately checks samples of spinal fluid, makes quick diagnosis, and starts treatment at once.
  • Later, these samples are sent to the State Public Health Laboratory only to confirm the exact type of amoeba. But treatment is never stopped or delayed while waiting for this confirmation. Officials said confirmatory tests are just to double-check.
  • Sometimes, checking water samples for amoeba can take more time because repeat tests are needed to be sure about its presence.
  • Since June, Kerala’s Public Health Lab has advanced testing machines that can identify five types of harmful free-living amoeba that attack humans and cause deadly brain infections.
  • Because of this new facility, Kerala does not need to send samples outside the State (like PGI Chandigarh) anymore. This has made diagnosis and treatment much faster and stronger within Kerala itself.

Man Arrested for Attack on Delhi CM

  • Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by a 41-year-old man, Rajesh Bhai Kimji Bhai Sakariya, who drives an auto-rickshaw in Gujarat. He had come to Delhi to protest against the Supreme Court order on shifting stray dogs.
  • The man walked into the Chief Minister’s Civil Lines office while a public hearing was underway. At first, he gave her some papers, but then suddenly tried to grab her. Security caught him quickly. Police later said they had video proof that he had checked the CM’s house one day earlier. He is now in custody, and police filed a case of attempt to murder and other serious charges.
  • According to Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, the Chief Minister faced a violent attack in which her hair was yanked and she was hurt on her hand, shoulder, and head. But Delhi Police chief Raja Banthia did not confirm how serious the injuries were.
  • CM Rekha Gupta wrote on X that the attack during her public meeting was cowardly. She said such attacks cannot break her will to serve the people of Delhi.
  • Police in Gujarat also questioned the attacker’s mother. She said her son is not connected to any politics and came to Delhi only because of anger over the dog relocation order.
  • Initially, certain BJP sources claimed that the Chief Minister had been slapped. But later, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva clarified this was wrong news. He said the attacker only caused a small injury on the CM’s head when he suddenly held her hand and pulled her during the scuffle.
