‘Vocabulary’
- Xenophobes (noun)
Meaning: a person having a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries. (ज़ेनोफ़ोब्स)
Synonyms: antiforeign, anti-immigrant, nativist
Antonyms: internationalist
Sentence: They say they are being unfairly typecast as xenophobes and racists.
- Renegade (noun)
Meaning: a person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles. (पाखण्डी)
Synonyms: traitor, defector, deserter
Antonyms: loyalist, adherent, disciple
Sentence: A band of renegades who had deserted their infantry units and were making their way to Mexico.
- Quagmire (noun)
Meaning: a soft boggy area of land that gives way underfoot. (दलदल)
Synonyms: swamp, morass, bog
Sentence: Torrential rain turned the building site into a quagmire.
- Prattling (verb)
Meaning: talk at length in a foolish or inconsequential way. (बकवास)
Synonyms: chatter, babble, prate
Antonyms: articulating, enunciating
Sentence: The villagers are prattling on about the village gossip.
- Periphery (noun)
Meaning: the outer limits or edge of an area or object. (उपनगर)
Synonyms: margin, fringe, boundary
Antonyms: inner, inside, interior
Sentence: Houses have been built on the periphery of the factory site.
- Impermanence (noun)
Meaning: the state or fact of lasting for only a limited period of time. (अनस्थिरता)
Synonyms: ephemerality, evanescence, fleetingness
Antonyms: endurance, permanence, permanency
Sentence: Change, impermanence is characteristic of life.
- Annulment (noun)
Meaning: the act of annulling something. (रद्द करना)
Synonyms: invalidation, nullification, voiding
Antonyms: enactment, legislation, establishment
Sentence: Continued absence of one party may also justify annulment.
- Deplore (verb)
Meaning: feel or express strong disapproval of (something). (विलाप करना)
Synonyms: abhor, be shocked by, be offended by
Antonyms: delight, exult, enjoy
Sentence: We deeply deplore the loss of life.
- Altercate (verb)
Meaning: dispute or argue noisily and publicly. (विवाद करना)
Synonyms: argue, argufy, bicker
Antonyms: accept, agree, assent
Sentence: Don’t altercate over such trivia.
- Ecstatic (adj.)
Meaning: feeling or expressing overwhelming happiness or joyful excitement. (उन्मादपूर्ण)
Synonyms: enraptured, elated, transported
Antonyms: depressed, dejected, despondent
Sentence: Sally was ecstatic about her new job.
