Avantee mega Food Park inaugurated in MP’s Dewas

  • In Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister for food processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated Avantee mega Food Park in Dewas. This first food park of central India is spread over 51 acres and has been constructed at a cost of about 150 crore rupees.
  • Processing of soyabean, gram, wheat and other grains and vegetables will be done in the park. Warehouses will also be opened in Indore, Ujjain, Dhar and Agar in the next phases.

Rajya Sabha forms informal group to study issues related to pornographic content on Internet, social media headed by Jairam Ramesh

  • Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on 5th December announced the formation of a 14-member informal group to study issues related to pornographic content on the Internet and social media platforms.
  • Congress leader Jairam Ramesh will co-ordinate the group which will submit its report within a month.
  • The group will share its “informal report” on pornographic content on the Internet and social media platforms after discussing it with civil society groups, compulsory emergency responsive teams and social media companies.

  • India has extended Line of Credits for two solar projects in Guinea. The agreements were exchanged in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Guinean counterpart Mamadi Toure. The two countries also signed an agreement for the development of a water supply agreement in Guinea.
  • Development of the solar projects reflected Guinea’s commitment to the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

Namibian president Hage Geingob won the country's presidential elections

  • Namibian president Hage Geingob won the country’s presidential elections second time with a diminished majority of 56.3 percent, the worst performance of any ruling party candidate for nearly 30 years.
  • Geingob was declared president on Saturday of this week’s vote, retaining his position and the ruling South West Africa People’s Organisation’s (SWAPO) long dominance of power, despite a recession and a corruption scandal that has fuelled popular discontent.

MoUs signed with Amazon, Flipkart to provide global market access to MSMEs

  • Punjab industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora on 6th December signed MoUs with key e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart to enable access to new markets for the Punjab-based MSMEs. The minister said that the the MoU will enable B2B linkages with key international markets, including US, Canada, Europe.
  • Benefit: Flipkart will facilitate access for MSMEs to new domestic markets, impetus to handloom weavers and small enterprises in the State.

  • Global payments technology major Mastercard has tied up with the Thailand Tourism Authority (TAT) to tap Indians travelling to the ASEAN country.
  • Mastercard data, there has been 20 per cent increase in spends on cashless transactions in Thailand by Indians as compared to 2018-19.
  • “Mastercard works in promoting tour and travel all around the world, it is something we have done for many years. We work with many of our partner banks, it is not about only Thailand.

RBI releases "Guidelines for 'on tap' Licensing of SFB in the Private Sector"

  • The Reserve Bank of India released guidelines for ‘on tap’ Licensing of Small Finance Banks in the Private Sector. Now payments banks willing to convert themselves into small finance banks (SFBs) can apply for such a licence only after 5 years of operations.
  • The licensing window will be open on-tap. The minimum capital for setting up an SFB has been mandated at ₹200 crores, adding for primary (urban) co-operative banks (UCBs), which wish to become SFBs, the initial requirement of net worth will be ₹100 crores, which will have to be increased to ₹200 crores within five years from the date of commencement of business. SFBs will be given scheduled bank status immediately upon commencement of operations.

Forex reserves hit a new high of $451 billion

  • Foreign exchange reserves continue the upward journey surging to a new high of $451.7 billion as of December 3.
  • Since the beginning of the current financial year, the forex kitty has gained by $38.8 billion as of December 3, the largest in recent year. The total reserves had risen by $347 million to $448.596 billion in the week to November 22, the last reported number by the RBI.

CSB Bank re-appoints Rajendran Chinna Veerappan as MD & CEO

  • The Kerala based Catholic Syrian Bank, in its board meeting held on 2 December, re-appointed Rajendran Chinna Veerappan as Managing Director and CEO of the Bank.
  • Veerappan has been on CSB board since November 2016 and his tenure was to end on 8 December. The board of directors of the bank have appointed for another three years with effect from 9 December till 8 December 2022.
