11th BRICS Summit in Brazil on November 13 and14


  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Brazil on November 13 and 14 to attend the 11th BRICS summit.
  • The theme of the BRICS summit this year is “Economic Growth for an Innovative Future” and it will be held in the capital city

19th IORA Council of Ministers Meeting 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE), as the incoming IORA Chair, will host the 19th IORA Council of Ministers (COM) Meeting on 7 November 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
  • Under the theme of “Promoting a Shared Destiny and Path to Prosperity in the Indian Ocean”.
  • At the COM, the UAE will assume the Chairship of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) for the period 2019-2021. The Chairship passes from the Republic of South Africa, which has been IORA Chair for the period 2017-2019. The People’s Republic of Bangladesh will assume the position of Vice Chair of IORA (also for 2019-2021), and form part of the Troika along with the UAE (as incoming Chair) and South Africa (as past Chair).

Writer Shanta Gokhale to receive Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award

  • The Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award for 2019 was conferred on writer, translator and film critic Shanta Gokhale. Poet K Satchidanandan was named the Tata Literature Live! Poet Laureate for 2019.
  • “Both these awards recognise an exceptional body of work which has made a significant impact in the Indian literary field,” said the organisers of the literature festival. Gokhale will receive her award on November 17 at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai while Satchidanandan will receive his award at the same venue on November 14.


Indo-Russian joint tri-service exercise to be held from 10th to 19th December


  • The first-ever joint tri-service exercise between India and Russia codenamed INDRA 2019 will be conducted from December 10-19.
  • In light of the threat of global terrorism facing both nations and by countries around the world, the theme of the exercise is contemporary and relevant.

Newly Discovered Species of Spider Named After Sachin Tendulkar

  • Sachin Tendulkar’s legendary status in the game of cricket has seen his fans find numerous ways to pay tribute to him.
  • Dhruv Prajapati, a junior researcher with the Gujarat Ecological Education & Research (GEER) Foundation, discovered two new species of spiders and named one after Tendulkar and the other after Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, who played a key role in creating awareness on education in Kerala.

National Education Day 2019


  • National Education Day is celebrated every year on November 11 in India. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Education Minister of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. A freedom fighter, renowned writer, poet, and journalist Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin was born on November 11, 1888.
  • In 1958 he passed away and in 1992 he was awarded Bharat Ratna for his contribution as an educationist.
  • On September 11, 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) decided, to celebrate November 11 as National Education Day every year. The main motto behind this day is to spread awareness about education and make every person literate.

  • Former chief election commissioner (CEC) and former Cabinet secretary Tirunellai Narayana Iyer Seshan, who ushered in reforms in the country’s electoral process during his tenure as CEC in the 1990s, died of a cardiac arrest on 10th November in Chennai.
