♦Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurates food park in Telangana
- Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday inaugurated Telangana’s first food park, which has been set up at a budget of ₹109cr.
- The park is promoted by Smart Agro Food Park at village Lakkampally, Nandipet Mandal of Nizamabad district, Telangana.
- Ministry is focussing on boosting the food processing industry so that agriculture sector grows exponentially and becomes a major contributor to doubling farmers’ income and ‘Make In India’ initiative of the government.
- Under the food park scheme, the Centre provides financial assistance of up to ₹50 crore.

♦6th India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue to be held from 7-9 September 2019
- The 6th India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue(SED) will be held in New Delhi from 7-9 September 2019.
- Aim: The Dialogue will comprise of round table meetings of Joint Working Groups (JWG) on Infrastructure, Energy, High-Tech, Resource Conservation, Pharmaceuticals and Policy coordination followed by technical site visits and closed door G2G meetings.
- Represent: The Indian side will be led by Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog and the Chinese side by Chairman, NDRC.
♦Human Resource Development Ministry has awarded the status of Institute of Eminence to 5 Institute
- The Human Resource Development Ministry has awarded the status of Institute of Eminence to the IIT-Madras, the IIT-Kharagpur, Delhi University, Benares Hindu University and the University of Hyderabad.
- Four private universities — the Vellore Institute of Technology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Jamia Hamdard University and the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology.
♦India ranked 34th on world travel, tourism competitiveness index
- India has moved up six places to rank 34th on world travel and tourism competitiveness index, driven by rich natural and cultural resources and strong price competitiveness, a WEF report.
- India’s ranking improved from 40th to 34th, the greatest improvement over 2017 among the top 25 per cent of all countries ranked in the report.

♦CBSE partners with Microsoft for capacity building of teachers for AI learning in schools
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has joined hands with Microsoft to conduct capacity building programmes for high school teachers and integrate cloud-powered technology in teaching.
- As part of the programme, at least 1,000 teachers nominated by the CBSE will undergo a three-day project-based training for practical, hands-on knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools such as OneNote, Flipgrid, Teams and Outlook.
- Benefit: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a strategic lever for economic growth across nations around the world. Through this initiative, we are empowering institutions, educators and students of India to acquire early education and skills in new technologies like AI and cloud to lead that growth in that rapidly changing world.
♦Standard Chartered launches DigiSmart card
- Standard Chartered Bank has launched a DigiSmart credit card that is focussed on millennials. The card is available for a monthly fee of ₹49, which will, however, be waived off if the customer spends more than ₹5,000 in the previous month.
- Benefit: credit card will offer instant discounts and benefits across key e-commerce categories of travel, entertainment, fashion, groceries, and food delivery round the year.

♦28TH Indo–Thai CORPAT
- 28th edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) is being conducted from 05 – 15 September 2019. Indian Naval (IN) Ship Kesari and His Majesty’s Thailand Ship (HTMS) Kraburi along with Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both the navies are participating in the CORPAT.
- IN ships and aircraft of Andaman and Nicobar Command have been participating in the biannual Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) with the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) since 2003.
- Objectives of the Indo-Thai CORPAT: The Objectives of the Indo-Thai CORPAT are to ensure effective implementation of United Nations Conventions on Laws of the Sea (UNCLOS) which specify regulations regarding protection and conservation of natural resources, conservation of marine environment, prevention and suppression of illegal, unregulated fishing activity/ drug trafficking/ piracy, exchange of information in prevention of smuggling, illegal immigration and conduct of Search and Rescue operations at sea.

♦Indian army to participate in joint exercise “TSENTR 2019”
- This will be the first time that forces from India and Pakistan will participate in a multilateral exercise together since the airstrikes conducted by Indian forces in Balakot earlier this year.
- The exercise, to be held for two weeks, from September 9-23, is named TSENTR 2019. It is “part of the annual series of large scale exercises that form part of the Russian Armed Forces’ annual training cycle”.
- The country hosts a “major military exercise every year at one of the military Commands – Vostok in the east, Zapad in the west, TSENTR in the centre and Kavkas in the south.
- “Invitations for participation have been extended to nine other countries”. Military contingents from China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan, along with Russia will participate.

♦Zimbabwe’s former President Robert Mugabe dies in Singapore
- Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe has died aged 95, the country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
- Mugabe died in Singapore, where he has often received medical treatment in recent years.
