♦India’s first e-waste clinic to be set up in Bhopal
- The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have joined hands to set up the country’s first e-waste clinic here, that would enable segregation, processing and disposal of waste from both household and commercial units.
- After inspecting the garbage and plastic recovery centres in Bhanpur here, CPCB officials discussed the clinic with BMC officials. A three-month pilot project, the clinic, if successful, would be replicated elsewhere in the country.

♦Portuguese PM Antonio costa won re-election
- The Socialist Party of Goa-origin Portuguese Prime Minister (PM) Antonio Costa has won re-election but failed to secure an absolute majority in parliament. It will have to form a minority government.
- Antonia Costa back ground: Born on July 17, 1961 in Lisbon, Costa was raised in the intellectual circles frequented by his parents, Orlando da Costa, a communist writer descended from a family from Goa, Portugal’s former colony in India, and Maria Antonia Palla, a journalist and women’s rights advocate.

♦Punjab govt appoints Justice Sharma as Lokpal
- Punjab Govt. appointed Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma as Punjab Lokpal. However, it failed to amend the Punjab Lokpal Act, 1996 thereby leaving the chief minister and cabinet ministers out of its ambit.

♦Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio named UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador
- The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has named Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Indigenous Peoples.
- Born on 11 December 1993 in Tlaxiaco, in the Mexican State of Oaxaca, Ms Aparicio is committed to the fight against racism and for the rights of women and indigenous peoples.

♦Indian Army’s Biggest Mountain Combat Exercise “Him Vijay” in Arunachal Pradesh
- The Indian Army’s biggest ever mountain combat exercise in Arunachal Pradesh ahead of China President Xi Jinping’s visit to India this month is reported to have irked Beijing, which considers large parts of Arunachal Pradesh as part of South Tibet.
- ‘Him Vijay’ is the first ever such drill that the military is holding in the northeastern state. Three battle groups, each comprising 4,000 soldiers, are participating in the exercise at a height of 14,000 feet – 100 kms away from the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
♦Indo Maldives joint Ex Ekuverin – 19 at Aundh Mil Stn, Pune from 07 to 20 Oct 19
- 10th edition of the Joint Military Exercise Ekuverin between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force will be organised from 07 to 20 October 2019 at Aundh Military Station in Pune, Maharashtra. The Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Forces have been conducting Exercise Ekuverin meaning ‘Friends’ in the Dhivehi language since 2009.
- Aim: The focus of the exercise will be on sharing of best practices and acquainting each other with the operating procedures being followed while undertaking counter insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.

- World number one Novak Djokovic won his first Japan Open title and the 76th of his career with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win over Australian John Millman in the final in Tokyo on 6th October.

- Naomi Osaka won a second tournament on the spin as she fought back from a set down to defeat world number one Ashleigh Barty in the China Open final.

♦New book documents Gandhi’s legacy launched in South Africa
- A new book on Mahatma Gandhi launched here documents how attempts to remember his sojourn in South Africa were stifled by the apartheid-era minority white government and revived after former president Nelson Mandela acknowledged his role in starting off democracy in the country.
- The book was launched on Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. ‘150 Years of Celebrating the Mahatma – the South African Legacy’, by author and journalist Fakir Hassen.
