Rajpath renamed as Kartavya Path
The redeveloped Central Vista from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate has been renamed its name from Rajpath to Kartavya Path after the inauguration made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With the renaming of to Kartavya Path Mr. Prime Minister has also brought out a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Idea behind renaming Rajpath into Kartavya Path:
- The renaming of Rajpath is in line with PM Modi’s Independence Day commitment of removing traces of colonial mindset.
- This event is a showcase a shift from the area being an icon of power to duty, public ownership and empowerment.
- Rajpath drew the rulers recognize if the name is Raj? Rajpath is a symbol of oppression and slavery.
- Now the architecture has been changed and as MPs, Ministers will walk on Kartavya Path, it will mind them their responsibilities.
The Grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose:
The grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the Centerpiece in whole mega Central Vista project. The statue is housed in the India Gate canopy and made from a monolithic block of granite weighing 280 tonnes. The statue is 28 feet tall which tributes the sacrifices of Netaji for India’s Independence.
Netaji Subhash was the first Prime Minister of Akhand Bharat who had freed Andaman even before 1947 and unfurled the tricolor.
The government has portioned five dedicated vending zones where 40 vendors each will be allowed, which means the usual rush of ice-cream vendors around the India Gate will now be interchanged by a regulated system. It is one of the most popular spots for locals and tourists alike. Two shop blocks with eight units each have also been established near India Gate.
High Security around new Signage, lamps and fountains:
Central Government has made heavy deployment of police and security guards for security against theft or damage to the new features like signage, lamps, fountains etc.
Central Vista project:
This is just one part of the mega project of the redevelopment of Central Vista that includes a new Parliament building, a common Central Secretariat, a new PM house and office, and a new Vice-President’s Enclave.
