Every year, State Bank of India (SBI) releases notifications for the recruitment of Probationary Officers having around 2000 Vacancies.

SBI PO Exam Pattern 

The SBI PO Exam will be conducted in 3 phases. The written exam is –

  • Prelims
  • Mains & Descriptive
  • Interview & Group Discussion (GD) round

Stage-1: SBI PO Preliminary Examination

This is an online exam where candidates have to solve the question paper in hour for 100 marks. The test comprises of 3 sections. The section-wise distribution of the marks is given below:

Stage-2 : SBI PO Mains Exam & Descriptive

This test has 155 questions that have to be answered in 3 hours. The paper is divided into 4 sections – Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness and English Language.

The descriptive section of SBI PO Mains is as follows:

  • Total Marks: 50

  • Question Type: Essay + Letter Writing (formal / informal)

The syllabus for SBI PO preliminary exam and mains exam is different as they are two different levels of SBI PO Exam. SBI PO Mains exam has 2 additional sections to be prepared – Computer Aptitude and General Awareness apart from the basic three sections of Quants, Reasoning & english Language. Current Affairs 

  • Before the Mains exam, give more time to cover the last 6 months’ current affairs portion as it will give you a lead in the exam.
  • Static GK is no longer the important part (hardly 1-2 question comes) of SBI PO.
  • Banking and Financial awareness do come in the mains but most of the questions are related to the current banking topics.
