 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Unconscionable (adj.)

Meaning: not right or reasonable. (अनर्थक)

Synonyms: unethical, amoral, immoral

Antonyms: ethical, moral, principled

Sentence: You take an unconscionable time getting dressed!

  1. Mutiny (verb)

Meaning: refuse to obey the orders of a person in authority. (बग़ावत करना)

Synonyms: rebel, revolt, riot

Antonyms: comply (with), follow, obey

Sentence: Thousands of the soldiers mutinied over the non-payment of wages.

  1. Vehemence (noun)

Meaning: the display of strong feeling; passion. (उत्साह)

Synonyms: passion, ardor, fervor

Antonyms: impassiveness, impassivity, aloofness

Sentence: She was astonished at his vehemence.

  1. Rugged (adj.)

Meaning: (of ground or terrain) having a broken, rocky, and uneven surface. (ऊबड़ – खाबड़)

Synonyms: rough, uneven, bumpy

Antonyms: even, flat, smooth

Sentence: The path to glory is always rugged.

  1. Debasement (noun)

Meaning: the action or process of reducing the quality or value of something. (मानमर्दन)

Synonyms: abjection, corruptness, debauchery

Antonyms: morality, righteousness, virtue

Sentence: The outcome is rot and debasement of the system.

  1. Ruses (noun)

Meaning: an action intended to deceive someone; a trick. (चाल)

Synonyms: ploy, stratagem, tactic

Sentence: Eleanor tried to think of a ruse to get Paul out of the house.

  1. Sullen (adj.)

Meaning: bad-tempered and sulky; gloomy. (उदास)

Synonyms: surly, sulky, pouting

Antonyms: cheerful, cheery, gladsome

Sentence: Bill sat in sullen silence and refused to eat his lunch.

  1. Crucify (verb)

Meaning: criticize (someone) severely and unrelentingly. (आलोचना करना)

Synonyms: condemn, criticize severely, denounce

Antonyms: commend, endorse

Sentence: He’s going to crucify me when he finds out what I’ve done!

  1. Abrogate (verb)

Meaning: repeal or do away with (a law, right, or formal agreement). (अभिनिषेध करना)

Synonyms: repudiate, revoke, repeal

Antonyms: enact, lay down, legislate

Sentence: Both governments voted to abrogate the treaty.

  1. Seclusion (noun)

Meaning: the state of being private and away from other people. (एकांत)

Synonyms: isolation, solitude, retreat

Antonyms: companionship, company, comradeship

Sentence: I live very much in seclusion these days.
